Teamwork. Community. Diversity. Fun!

That’s what Pittsburgh’s Amazing Bowling Race (PABR) is all about.

create a team

Join forces with one other person - a family member, best friend, co-worker, neighbor or even a total stranger. PABR is the same no matter who you pair up with. The first team that successfully completes all challenges at a variety of locations and crosses the finish line, wins!

race to the finish

The race begins in the morning, where teams take the first challenge of the day at the starting line. Complete the challenge to receive your first clue, and you’re off! From there, you’ll head out toward the first of eight remaining locations along the race route. A unique challenge waits for you at each stop along the way.

fun for everyone

Not an expert bowler? No worries! Challenges test not only your bowling skills, but your brainpower, stamina, determination, and ability to let loose and have fun. And some challenges simply require luck! Complete each challenge to receive a clue with directions to the next location. As you wind your way through the streets of Pittsburgh, you’ll also be treated to a scenic tour of some of the city’s most interesting neighborhoods and boroughs including Lawrenceville, Squirrel Hill, Mount Lebanon, Greentree, and many others.

But remember…the clock is ticking. Cross the finish line first and claim the $1,000 grand prize.

benefit a worthy cause

Besides raising your adrenaline, your participation in PABR will help raise money and awareness for the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh in support of their mission to end intimate partner abuse in the lives of local women and children. Additionally, proceeds from PABR will help the Three Rivers Eastern Area Tournament (TREAT) continue its work with other Pittsburgh-area charities and community non-profit organizations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people on a team?

Two (2). Each team will have two team mates

What time do we start?

Registration will begin at 7:00 am on Saturday July 18th at the Spaghetti Warehouse in the Strip District (2601 Smallman St; Pittsburgh, PA 15222).  A pre-race breakfast will be available for $5.00 provided by the Spaghetti Warehouse (with a portion of the breakfast sales going to our charity). The race will begin at 9:00 am. We recommend people arrive no later than 8:30 am to get through registration and be ready to start at 9:00.

Am I fit enough, how much endurance do I need for PABR?

If you can walk for 10 minutes, then you are fit enough for this event. There is no distance running, biking or anything that will be too strenuous on anyone.

Do I have to be a good bowler?

No. While it will help to have some basic understanding of bowling (for example: you put three fingers into the ball and roll it down the lane, avoiding the gutters to knock down pins), you do not need to be a good bowler. All you need it a competitive spirit, the desire to have some fun and the ability to do some problem solving on the fly.

Do I need to bring a bowling ball or bowling shoes?

No. You will not need to bring your balls or shoes to this event. To level the playing field, we will be providing all the equipment you will need to complete the challenges.

Can more than one team ride in a car together?

Yes. This is a very 'green' idea, and it is totally acceptable. Do keep in mind this is a race, and if one team from a car finishes a task quickly, they maybe waiting for the second team to finish and lose valuable time.

Can friends ride along to cheer us along?

Yes. You may bring people to cheer you on. The CAN NOT help you with the challenges, but they can scream and shout and encourage you the entire way. Why not bring two friends along and have then form their own team and race together?

Can I use a GPS?

Yes. We advise and encourage you to bring your GPS, your phone with a GPS application or at the very least a map. We will provide a lot of information about the different locations, but we WILL NOT provide you with directions.

Will people who live in Pittsburgh have an advantage?

Not necessarily. While the race takes place in Pittsburgh, it takes place in many different parts of the city and few people will know where every location is, or the fastest way to get between them (as we mentioned earlier, bring a map, GPS, etc...)

What do I need to bring with me?

GPS or map, Cell phone, some quarters and some small bills for parking (if needed), money for breakfast and/or lunch after the event, digital camera or a camera phone (this item is optional). Any other items we will notify you of in an email you will receive the week of the event.

How long will it take?

Times will vary depending how quickly you complete the various tasks, but you should allow 3 - 4 hours to complete the race.

Are there any age limits?

No. Participants under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardians signature to participate, and the event does require the use of a car, so each team member needs to have a person who can legally drive, or have a legal driver chauffeuring them.

Is this a kid friendly event?

Yes! Kids of all ages are welcome to participate!

Can I compete with my child?

Definitely! We encourage people to participate with their children. This event is about having fun and enjoying the wonder city of Pittsburgh as well as racing to be crowned the winner of Pittsburgh's Amazing Bowling Race.

How can I volunteer?

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please e-mail bradmumpower@mac.com and we ask you a few questions and present you with different ways you can help on the day of the event.
